Hydrostatic Test Procedure Checklist

  1. Holding time = 1 hour (minimum).
  2. Test pressure according to UG-99(b)/(c).
  3. Metal temperature during test: 17°C (30°F) above MDMT and 48°C (120°F) (maximum).
  4. No. of dial gauges = 2 (minimum).
  5. Dial gauge Pressure Range = 1.5 to 4 times test pressure.
  6. Test pressure increasing and decreasing procedures.
  7. Test performed after PWHT (if any) and before application of any paints.
  8. Test medium specification as per project specification.
  9. draining and drying method as per project specification.
  10. Gaskets and bolting used on all flanged connections during the test shall be
    identical to those in operation and not to be used again.
  11. Following the test inspection shall be made of all joints and connections. This inspection shall be made at a pressure not less than the test pressure divided by 1.3.
  12. The followings are addressed/included in the test procedure:-
    • References section indicating but not limited to current code edition, project specification no. and revision.
    • Sample Hydrotest Certificate.

PWHT Procedure Checklist

  1. Holding temperature and time are as per ASME VIII-div 1 table UCS-56.
  2. Furnace temperature ≤ 800°F (425°C) at the time the vessel or part is placed in it.
  3. Above 800°F (425°C), maximum and minimum heating rate are 400°F/hr (222°C/h) and 100°F/hr (56°C/h) respectively.
  4. Maximum temperature difference throughout the portion of the vessel being heated:
    • < 250°F (140°C) during the heating period.
    • < 150°F (83°C) during Holding Time.
  5. Above 800°F (425°C), maximum and minimum cooling rates are 500°F/hr (280°C/h) and 100°F/hr (56°C/h) respectively.
  6. Still air cooling (if any) starts at or below 800°F (425°C).
  7. The followings are addressed/included in the PWHT procedure:-
    • References section indicating but not limited to current code edition, project specification no. and revision.
    • Number and location of thermocouples.
    • Method of attaching the thermocouples to the vessel.
    • Sample PWHT Certificate.
    • Thermocouples distribution sketch.
